Dr. Randy Cross joined Nova Southeastern University as the Director of the Center of Public Service Innovation and Research and an Assistant Professor of Public Administration in 2025. In this role he is tasked with developing the capabilities, partnerships and activities of the Center, as well as teaching undergraduate through doctoral public administration courses.
Prior to this role, Randy worked for over 25 years as a practitioner in local government. First at the City of Deerfield Beach, and then retiring from the City of Miramar after nearly 23 years of service. While at the City of Miramar, he spent his first decade in the Police Department, attaining the rank of Bureau Commander, before moving to City Hall to assume senior leadership positions serving as the city’s Procurement Director, Human Resources Director, Chief Operating Officer, and Assistant City Manager.
Outside of City Hall, Randy has enjoyed working in higher education. From 2007 through 2021, he worked as an adjunct professor at Barry University, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in public administration, criminal justice, emergency management, and human resources.
Randy earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Florida Atlantic University, and his doctorate from Barry University. He was born and raised in the Fort Lauderdale area, and it’s still home today with his wife and kids.
